With less than 3 months less until election day, people are starting to pay close attention to what is at stake in November and who is on the ballot to represent their values. In the past few weeks, Sen. Kandie Smith and her campaign for re-election to the NC State Senate have been capturing the attention of citizens statewide.
This August 13th article shares Kandie’s story of becoming a State Senator. As a leader, advocate, and fighter, Sen. Smith has faced and overcome challenges throughout her career as an elected official. Her current office is the same – even in the Republican-controlled NC General Assembly, she is ready to make progress for people on the issues that matter, such as housing affordability or criminal justice reform.
This progress is a continuation of the work that Sen. Smith has already done in the General Assembly. Though efforts are underway to take away access to critical programs like Social Security and Medicare, Kandie and other progressive legislators in NC won a hard fight to expand Medicaid and are doing everything they can to make sure that more people have access to the care they need, not less.
Kandie’s work as State Senator is more than just in the Chamber in Raleigh. She supports local elected officials as they carry on municipal work in their cities and towns across Edgecombe and Pitt Counties. She is familiar with the processes at the local level, having served the City of Greenville for almost a decade as a City Councilmember and Mayor. Her commitment to the Town of Princeville in Edgecombe County and their efforts to boost their infrastructure and rebuild from natural disasters extends outside of her normal responsibilities as a State Senator, attending local town halls and meetings with state and federal agencies.
Kandie’s dedication to her district is paired with years of experience advocating for those in need and navigating political processes to make progress for the people. November 5th is an opportunity to keep Sen. Smith in her position in Raleigh and put North Carolina on a path to put #PeopleFirst. It’s almost time to Get Out the Vote. Are you ready?
