June 26, 2024 Kandie Smith was appointed as the Chair of the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus (NCLBC). The NCLBC is an association of state legislators in NC of Black, American Indian, and Asian-American heritage. Kandie has served as the First Vice Chair for the Caucus for one year, and four years as the Caucus’s treasurer.
Kandie’s appointment to this position is an acknowledgement and recognition of the work she has done throughout her time in the General Assembly and before to protect and amplify Black and other minority voices across the state. She is recognized by her peers in the Assembly and in District 5 for being an advocate for disadvantaged voices, and as the Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, she can continue this work and elevate others across North Carolina that are doing the same.
